Howard Gold’s No-Nonsense Investing: Bull market in U.S. stocks ‘has a long way to go’

In the midst of winter’s gloom, when U.S. stocks looked like they had nowhere to go but down, even some bullish market gurus began to doubt that the nearly seven-year-old bull market could continue.

But Craig Johnson, senior technical analyst at Piper Jaffray in Minneapolis, was neither broken nor bowed.

“For 2016, I’m calling for 2,350,” he told me in an interview in late January when the S&P 500 Index was struggling to stay over 1,900.

“Nobody believes me, and nobody believed me in 2012.” That was when he first made his call that we’re in a very long-term secular bull market in stocks.
