Beer Goggles: Craft brewers’ success accelerates — and, yet, there’s more whining

A bit of advice for craft beer brewers and distributors who feel they just can’t win a battle against Anheuser-Busch InBev: Quit. That’s right: Just quit.

Even after the settlement in the Department of Justice’s antitrust suit against Anheuser-Busch InBev BUD, -3.68% of its proposed $108 billion takeover of SABMiller was announced, craft beer’s skeptics were out in force.

In an appearance I made on The Beer Temple Insiders Roundtable podcast in Chicago last week, a Chicago brewer lamented that despite the DOJ demanding oversight on all ABI brewery acquisitions and setting limits on the amount of beer it could self-distribute, “The Borg” of ABI and SABMiller would find a way to cheat the rules.
