MarketWatch First Take: Alphabet’s Google joins rival Facebook in mobile-ad surge

One day after Facebook Inc.’s barn-burner of a second quarter, Alphabet Inc.’s Google business also reported a big boost in revenue from mobile ads, calming investors who were nervous that Facebook was stealing market share, and sending Alphabet shares to new highs.

In the second quarter, Google said its overall cost per click fell 7%, compared with a drop of 9% in the previous quarter and a tumble of 11% in the year-ago period.
