Outside the Box: It’s time for former Presidents Bush to take a stand on the Trump-Clinton contest

It is of course an understatement to say that Donald Trump is an unusual presidential candidate.

The Republican nominee, a businessman and reality show star, has shown authoritarian tendencies and willingness to embrace conspiracy theories. Leading members of his own party have described him as a “madman,” a “conman,” and “our Mussolini.”

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell admitted that “Trump doesn’t know a lot about the issues.” Last week, when Trump suggested that as president he might not defend NATO allies, Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger called Trump’s remarks “ill-informed” and “dangerous.
