The Wall Street Journal: Dallas police say job applications have skyrocketed over past few weeks

Dallas police have seen an “unprecedented surge” in people applying to become officers after deadly July 7 sniper attack, the department said Friday.

Days after the shooting that left five officers dead, Dallas Chief David Brown issued a call to those protesting police: Join us.

“We’re hiring,” he said at the time. “Get off that protest line and put an application in. We’ll put you in your neighborhood and we’ll help you resolve some of the problems you’re protesting about.”

The department, which had been struggling to draw new recruits, received 467 applications from July 8 through July 20. The department received just 136 applications over the same period in June.
