Pokémon Go became an instant success in several countries this month as millions of people downloaded the app and went on adventures trying to capture Squirtles and Charmanders.

But the reaction hasn’t all been positive.

Some users had privacy concerns after realizing that when they signed into the app with their Google GOOGL, +3.33% account, Niantic Inc., the game’s developer, requested “full access,” which included the contents of Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive and Google Calendar. Niantic has since updated the app so that Google doesn’t get full access.

Pokémon Go users aren’t alone when it comes to apps and privacy concerns; millions of people are using apps that track users’ locations.
