The Wall Street Journal: Verizon’s go90 video app has had a tough time attracting advertisers

Verizon Communications Inc.’s rollout of go90, a video-centric mobile app aimed at younger viewers not loyal to traditional TV, has underwhelmed the advertising community thus far.

Launched last October, go90 is a mobile app that features video content from traditional TV networks like Comedy Central as well as digital natives like the teen-targeted AwesomenessTV. The free app also offers some live NFL games to Verizon VZ, -1.39% subscribers.

Overall, while media companies distributing their content via go90 say they are generally happy with the app’s modest but growing audience, advertisers say go90 has disappointed.

“Adoption has been slower than they anticipated,” said Niki DeCou, vice president, brand group director at the ad buying firm Horizon Media.
