Market Snapshot: Dow on track for 8th day of losses as stock futures point lower

U.S. stock futures trimmed losses Wednesday, but were still pointing to a lower open on Wall Street after a report showing the private sector added a better-than-expected 179,000 new jobs last month.

The ADP reading sets the tone for the closely watched July nonfarm payrolls report due Friday.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures YMU6, -0.17% were down 28 points, or 0.2%, at 18,220 while S&P 500 futures ESU6, -0.17% dropped 3.20 points, or 0.2%, to 2,149.00. Futures for the Nasdaq-100 NQU6, -0.19% fell 7.50 points, or 0.2%, to 4,706.

On Tuesday, the Dow industrials DJIA, -0.49% booked a seventh straight decline, the longest losing streak in about a year, falling 90.74 points, or 0.5%, to 18,312.77.
