‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ bombed at box office, but boosted Viacom’s revenue

Viacom Inc.’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” bombed at the box office, but still managed to make its film division look good.

The media and entertainment company VIA, -0.31%VIAB, +0.53% reported third-quarter earnings of $1.05 per share on Thursday, down 29% from the year-earlier period, but ahead of FactSet’s consensus of $1.02.

Of course, that’s only after the company issued a profit warning in June, forecasting earnings would come in a range of $1 to $1.05 per share. The FactSet consensus at the time was $1.38 per share, or 31% higher than the low end of that range.
