Critics are dismantling ‘Suicide Squad’ — can it survive bad press?

Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Bros. film division is facing a serious case of déjà vu.

The studio’s latest release, “Suicide Squad,” has been one of the most anticipated films of the summer. Slapped with a $175 million production budget, “Suicide Squad” hits theaters this weekend, but early reviews are grim, verging on grisly.

Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson wrote, “ ‘Suicide Squad’ is bad. Not fun bad. Not redeemable bad. Not the kind of bad that is the unfortunate result of artists honorably striving for something ambition and falling short. ‘Suicide Squad’ is just bad.”

The film has a 27% rotten rating after 182 reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes site.
