10 under-the-radar national parks where you can avoid the crowds

Denali National Park, Alaska

Yes, Alaska is definitely off the beaten path, but making the trip out to Denali National Park and Preserve offers the opportunity to view North America’s tallest peak: Denali, formerly known as Mount McKinley.

“Solitude, tranquility and wilderness await,” the park’s website promises. Denali encompasses 6 million acres of wild land, and so far this year, has seen less than 345,000 visitors, which is about 10,000 fewer visitors than last year and a far cry from Yosemite’s 2.7 million or Yellowstone’s 2.4 million. So it’s a fair bet that solitude indeed awaits.
