‘Suicide Squad’ should stay alive atop the weekend box office

Bad reviews can’t stop “Suicide Squad” from raking in the dough, as the superhero blockbuster is expected to follow up its record-breaking performance with another week atop the weekend box office.

The PG-13 rated action/adventure film, from Time Warner Inc.’s TWX, +0.15% Warner Bros., garnered just a 26% rating at Rotten Tomatoes—202 of 274 reviewers said the film was “rotten”–but it’s expected to bring in $38.5 million this weekend, according to BoxOffice.com. That would push its domestic take up to about $220 million in just nine days, well above its production budget of $175 million.

The film should finish with a comfortable lead ahead of Walt Disney Co.
