The Wall Street Journal: Donald Trump causes schism among Yale’s young Republicans

Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy has riven Yale University’s young Republicans.

Earlier this month, four of the seven student board members of the Yale College Republicans resigned in protest when the club endorsed Trump.

Those four have since formed a rival Republican faction, the Yale New Republicans, which plans to discuss its own endorsement when students return to campus.

“We believe that if a Republican candidate strays so far from Republican values, that we shouldn’t have to support him or her simply because they are a Republican,” said Michael Fitzgerald, a 19-year-old sophomore who is the co-chairman of the Yale New Republicans and former treasurer of the Yale College Republicans.
