The Wall Street Journal: Donald Trump set to air first TV ads in 5 states

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is poised to begin airing his first television ads of the general election starting Friday in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Pennsylvania, a campaign adviser said.

The ad buy was disclosed to about 50 members of Congress in a conference call Tuesday with Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Lawmakers were told the campaign would begin buying ads more widely after Sept. 1.

Trump, who frequently boasts that he beat several primary challengers who spent far more than he did, has yet to air a single TV ad since he clinched the nomination. Democratic rival Hillary Clinton has run ads in battleground states for two months and spent about $61 million, while pro-Clinton outside groups have spent another $43 million, according to NBC News.
