Currencies: Dollar gains ground against yen, as investors wait for fresh signals

The yen was lower against the dollar and the euro during Asian trade Friday after its rally close to the post-Brexit high earlier this week, with a lack of fresh trading cues making for directionless trade.

The U.S. currency USDJPY, +0.21% was at ¥100.30 from ¥99.87 late Thursday in New York. The greenback hit an intraday high of ¥100.44 earlier in the midmorning session, but failed to rise further.

The euro EURJPY, +0.15% rose to ¥113.87 before slightly trimming its gains to ¥113.81 at midday. The common currency was at ¥113.44 late Thursday.

The Japanese currency strengthened past ¥100 against the dollar earlier this week, amid summer-holiday-thinned trading.
