Currencies: Dollar gains ground on yen ahead of Fed’s Jackson Hole meeting

The dollar was slightly stronger against the yen and mixed against other main rivals Monday ahead of a closely watched symposium of Federal Reserve policy makers and economists in Jackson Hole, Wyo., scheduled for Friday.

The ICE U.S. Dollar Index DXY, -0.08% a measure of the buck against a basket of six major currencies, was down 0.4% at 94.55. The dollar gauge has experienced choppy trade throughout Monday.

The buck has been gyrating on shifting expectations around U.S. interest rates, with investors’ recent trade suggesting that the likelihood of a rate-hike as early as the Fed’s next meeting in September is growing.
