London Markets: FTSE 100 drops, with energy shares hit as oil prices drive lower

U.K. stocks fell Monday, with energy shares thrown down further into the red as a drop in oil prices accelerated.

The FTSE 100 UKX, -0.44% lost 0.6% to 6,821.32, dragged by declines among oil producers and miners.

Oil majors extended their declines as oil prices continued to lose ground, with Brent crude LCOV6, -2.69% down 3% to trade under $50 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate oil CLU6, -2.39% slumped nearly 3% to move under $48 a barrel.

Shares of Royal Dutch Shell PLC RDSB, -1.69%RDS.B, -1.64% gave up 1.9% and BP PLC
