HP shows the PC isn’t dead yet

Personal computers have been on their deathbed, but HP Inc. proved this week that the PC market still has some life, at least when it comes to higher-end computers sold under its brand.

Benefiting from a suite of premium PCs, such as its OMEN line of gaming laptops, the 13.3-inch Spectre PC and HP’s MacBook competitor, the EliteBook Folio G1, HP HPQ, -0.21% reported a 4% year-over-year increase in PC unit sales and a 12% increase in notebook unit sales for the third quarter. Revenue from personal systems was flat, ending a five-quarter stint of declines.

The “death of HP’s PC business has been greatly exaggerated,” said Deutsche Bank analyst Sherri Scribner in a note to clients Thursday.
