I stopped worrying about money and had fun this summer. Here’s what I learned

Americans were expected to spend an average of $941 per person on summer getaways this year, according to a survey from American Express. And this summer I decided to participate in that spending spree, giving myself a reprieve from counting every penny, plus the other obligations I typically fill my weeks with, to relax and just have fun.

But before you roll your eyes and begin a mental rant about millennials being irresponsible, let me explain: Deciding summer is for fun was very out of character for me. I live a pretty regimented life, and I give myself a hard time when I don’t live up to the high expectations I set for productivity every week.
