Hermine threatens to return to hurricane strength on Sunday

The National Hurricane Center continued to warn of a dangerous storm surge and flooding from Tropical Storm Hermine as the storm made its way up the Eastern Seaboard on Saturday.

Hermine, currently off the coast of North Carolina, is expected to intensify to hurricane force on Sunday, and the National Hurricane Center said Hermine’s slow movement and large wind field could result in hazardous conditions lasting into midweek.

“There is a danger of life-threatening inundation through tonight in the Hampton Roads area, and in the next 36 hours from Chincoteague, Virginia, to Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Persons within these areas should take all necessary actions to protect life and property from rising water,” it said in its 5 p.m.
