The Wall Street Journal: Founder Joe Mansueto to step down as Morningstar CEO

The man who launched Morningstar Inc. from his Chicago apartment in 1984 is stepping down as chief executive.

Joe Mansueto will become executive chairman of the mutual-fund data company in January. His successor will be the firm’s president, Kunal Kapoor, who joined Morningstar in 1997 as a data analyst.

Mansueto said in an interview that he recently turned 60 years old and wants more “time to read and think and reflect.”

“I still love the company,” he said, adding that he will continue to work on the firm’s strategy and lead its board.

Now a billionaire, Mansueto is largely responsible for building Morningstar MORN, -0.86% into a mutual-fund and exchange-traded-fund ratings and data giant.
