The Wall Street Journal: Lego profit dips as toy maker speeds up investment in Asia

Danish toy company Lego A/S said Tuesday that its half-year net profit declined slightly as it accelerated investment and because of flat sales in the Americas.

The privately-held Danish company, which doesn’t release quarterly results, said net profit for the first half slipped to 3.49 billion Danish kroner ($520 million) from 3.55 billion kroner in the same period last year.

Revenue increased 11% to 15.69 billion kroner from 14.14 billion kroner.

Lego said it was making “considerable investments in capacity and capabilities” in Asia, where it reported double-digit growth, with a new factory under construction in Jiaxing, China.

While sales in Europe increased by more than 10%, they were flat in the Americas compared with the first half of 2015.
