London Markets: FTSE 100 clings to slim gain after 3 losses in a row

U.K. stocks held to a thin gain Wednesday, peering at their first rise in four sessions, as investors waited for an update on the country’s labor market following the Brexit vote.

The FTSE 100 UKX, +0.73% was up 0.1% to 6,672.01. Mining, consumer services and industrial shares were higher, but energy, consumer goods and tech issues were in the red.

Among advancers, Compass Group PLC CPG, +1.54% rose 1.8% after a ratings upgrade to overweight from neutral at J.P. Morgan Cazenove, which foresees an acceleration of free cash flow for the food services and facilities management company.
