Currencies: Dollar heads to the sidelines ahead of Fed and Bank of Japan meetings

The dollar was flat against the yen and the euro during holiday thin Asian trade on Friday, with investors reluctant to take strong positions ahead of three-day weekend in Japan and monetary policy meetings of the Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan next week.

The greenback USDJPY, -0.10% was changing hands at ¥102.03, compared with ¥102.08 late Thursday in New York. The euro EURUSD, -0.0445% was slightly weaker at $1.1240 midday from $1.1242. Financial markets in China, Hong Kong and South Korea were closed today for a public holiday. Markets in Japan will be closed Monday for a national holiday.
