Driver’s ed industry is dying even before Tesla and Uber wipe it out completely

The computer made the travel agent virtually obsolete. Netflix NFLX, +0.76% turned the video-store clerk into an endangered species. And nobody even cares about flash drives anymore thanks to the cloud.

So, will driverless cars send the driver’s ed instructor the way of the dinosaur? Many driver’s ed teachers and industry experts do not seem too concerned.

This week, Uber began sending self-driving cars — though with a real person behind the steering wheel who can intercede if there is an issue — to some of its customers in Pittsburgh. The company says that these cars have “enormous potential” in the future.
