Market Snapshot: Stocks set to cap the week with loss as energy, financials share stumble

U.S. stocks traded lower early Friday as energy and financial shares weighed on the market ahead of a key meeting of monetary-policy setters next week.

So-called quadruple witching, the simultaneous expiration of stock-index futures, stock-index options, stock options and single-stock futures, is expected to foster choppy trading action.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.53% was 104 points, or 0.6%, lower at 18,105, with J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. JPM, -1.66% falling 1.2% to lead lagging Dow components. The S&P 500 index SPX, -0.60% dropped 11 points, or 0.5%, to 2,135, pressured by roughly 1% declines in the energy and financials sectors.
