The Tell: Fed decision day: Here’s how the S&P 500 performs historically

Stock investors on Wednesday have their attention fixed on the Federal Reserve’s coming policy decision (and the Bank of Japan to some extent).

But regardless of the outcome, buying on Fed decision days have presented investors a solid opportunity to make money, according to Bespoke Investment Group.

However, Bespoke also notes that this the S&P 500’s recent returns over the past six policy decisions in 2016 have been mostly lackluster. The index fell 0.2% after the last policy move in June and then it declined 0.1% in July after the most recent Fed confab, according to Bespoke.
