The Margin: Good news for the rest of the U.S. — Chicago’s crime plague isn’t contagious

Chicago tallied its 500th homicide of the year over the usually celebratory Labor Day weekend, according to data collected by the FBI and the Chicago Police Department.

It was a scary headline picked up by a national press that’s been fixated on the third-largest U.S. city’s inability to fix its bloody mess and one that leaves most Chicagoans dry-mouthed trying to explain it away.
