The Wall Street Journal: U.N. Security Council meets as Syria airstrikes intensify

UNITED NATIONS — The Security Council held an emergency meeting on Sunday on what diplomats called an unprecedented acceleration of fighting in Aleppo in terms of numbers, scale and scope.

The U.S. claimed Russia and Syria’s regime had launched 150 airstrikes in the past 72 hours. The U.N. said medical triages, bases for emergency responders, a school and civilian homes were flattened and 213 people killed.

The U.N. Special envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, told the Council he had seen videos and pictures of incendiary bombs “that create fireballs of such intensity that they light up the pitch darkness in eastern Aleppo, as though it was actually daylight.
