Former President Bill Clinton turned all of his charm last week to making sure that he and the Clinton Foundation receive full credit for their charitable works in education, health, and nutrition. There was actor Ben Affleck smiling in the audience, as the graying statesman delivered his farewell address in New York to foundation backers and beneficiaries.

The ex-president heaped superlatives on his charity—which he said was responsible for “a profound advance in the conduct and impact of modern philanthropy,” and on well-wishers, whom he said were united by “the belief that our actions really can make a difference, and that as 21st century citizens we all have a moral obligation to at least get caught trying to do that.
