Capitol Report: After first debate, presidential campaign turns to sex

The 2016 presidential election continued to break fresh ground for American political discourse over the weekend, with the major parties and their campaigns using the week after a widely watched debate to trade sex-themed barbs.

GOP nominee Donald Trump on Saturday issued the latest salvo: a statement, delivered without evidence during a Pennsylvania rally, that his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton has been disloyal to former President Bill Clinton, her husband since 1975.

“I don’t even think she’s loyal to Bill, you want to know the truth,” Trump said. “And really, folks, really, why should she be, right?”

The statement came on the heels of an interview with the New York Times in which Trump, who has characterized Clinton as an enabler of abuse of women by former President Clinton while he was in the White House, might push the couple’s relationship harder as a campaign issue.
