Market Extra: Dow, S&P 500, bonds trade like a Fed rate hike isn’t cause to stress out

Is the stock market finally getting acclimated to the prospect of a rate hike?

It is hard to say definitively, but gauged by the action in stocks and bonds on Wednesday, you’d have to say Wall Street may be inured to the likelihood of a December bump up in rates that might resume the Federal Reserve’s fitful effort to normalize monetary policy.

A period of ultralow rates has helped to juice equity values to records in part because it keeps borrowing costs for companies low. The cessation of that stretch of easy money has typically led to tantrums from equity markets, forcing the major indexes to convulse lower.
