The Margin: New symbol of America? This eagle, caught in Hurricane Matthew

By Sunday, this bald eagle, caught in a car grill, was recovering at a Florida wildlife rescue after a losing run-in with Hurricane Matthew.

But the country that the majestic bird represents was battening down for the second head-to-head presidential debate, one expected to be particularly rough in the wake of the “lewd comments” revelations swirling around Republican candidate Donald Trump.

As Hurricane Matthew ripped its path through Florida, the call of a bald eagle—the U.S. national emblem since 1782—stuck in a car grill may have been one of the stranger alerts to 911 operators. A posting on the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page Saturday reported the emergency request from a driver near Jacksonville.
