Capitol Report: Trump cites email that reporter says Russians ‘manipulated’ | New Clinton worry is depressed turnout

Donald Trump on Monday night touted an email allegedly from Hillary Clinton confidante Sidney Blumenthal that purported Clinton bore responsibility for the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

But the words he recited weren’t Blumenthal’s: instead, they were Blumenthal citing two sentences from a 10,000-word piece by Newsweek writer Kurt Eichenwald that Eichenwald called “hardly the point of the story.” And Eichenwald is asking how Trump “came to push Russian disinformation to American voters.” The email was originally reported by Russian news service Sputnik, which was established by a government-controlled news agency.

“This is not funny,” Eichenwald writes in a piece for Newsweek.
