Currencies: Dollar strengthens against euro, pound, extending recent gains

The U.S. dollar strengthened against most of its rivals on Tuesday, with the euro seeing a pronounced move lower as investors continued to bet that a recent string of economic data was positive enough to not change the Federal Reserve’s timetable for raising interest rates.

The pound fell again against the dollar, and remains mired at multidecade lows. The British currency has fallen by almost 5% thus far this month, amid concerns over the prospect of a “hard Brexit.” That refers to the United Kingdom making a clean break with the European Union following its vote in June to leave the bloc.
