Beer Goggles: New York cares more about craft beer than Portland

One of the best ways to enjoy beer in a “great” beer town is to leave it every once in a while.

As noted at the bottom of this column, I’m based in Portland, Ore., and am somewhat spoiled in my location. When the Brewers Association craft beer industry group out of Boulder, Colo., held its Craft Brewers’ Conference in 2015, it did so here. When the Beer Institute beer industry lobbying group out of D.C. held its annual meeting this year, it chose Portland as its location.

Despite the absence a major Anheuser-Busch InBev SA BUD, -0.78% Molson Coors Brewing Co.
