The Wall Street Journal: Challenge to Brexit begins in U.K. high court

The main legal challenge to the process of Brexit is opening in the U.K. High Court on Thursday, as pressure mounts on the government to give lawmakers the opportunity to vote on how Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union is carried out.

At the heart of the high-profile case is the question of whether the Conservative-led government has sufficient authority to unilaterally trigger the formal mechanism for leaving the EU, known as Article 50, without prior approval from Parliament.

The complex case—brought by British citizens with the help of some of the U.K.’s top constitutional lawyers—is an added complication for U.K.
