The Wall Street Journal: China’s LeEco shows off an array of tech for U.S. debut

Chinese technology and entertainment company LeEco staged a showy U.S. debut Wednesday, but its presentation raised as many questions as it answered.

At an event in San Francisco, LeEco said it would begin selling smartphones and smart TVs in the U.S. on Nov. 2. But Chief Executive Jia Yeuting said in an interview that only 100,000 phones would initially be available, and that he didn’t know how many smart TVs will be available by the launch date.

In China, LeEco is known for its ambitious promises and aggressive marketing. Previously known as LeTV, the company began as an online-video site, but has since sprawled into multiple businesses, including smartphones, TVs and a promised driverless car.
