The New York Post: World Series-bound at last, Cubs fans party like it’s 1945

CHICAGO — The thin aisles filled at Wrigley Field 90 minutes before Kyle Hendricks’ first pitch, and so did a brew of tension, hope, anticipation and energy.

“It was amazing,” Cubs GM Jed Hoyer said. “I walked out an hour before the game, and there were so many people in the seats I thought maybe the game had begun.”

The anticipation was understandable. The Second City had waited 25,956 days to be first in the National League. The last time the Cubs assured a trip to the World Series was Sept. 29, 1945 — 12 days after a future Chicago icon named Phil Jackson was born and 10 days before the microwave oven was unleashed on the planet.
