The Wall Street Journal: At least 13 killed in Southern California bus crash

Thirteen people were killed and 31 injured early Sunday morning when a bus returning to Los Angeles from a casino trip slammed into the back of a semitrailer truck on a highway near Palm Springs, Calif.

The bus was carrying 44 people, and most of the passengers were sleeping when the bus, owned by USA Holiday Bus, hit the rear of the truck at a high rate of speed, California Highway Patrol Chief Jim Abele said at a news conference Sunday. He said it wasn’t clear whether the driver was going over the speed limit or whether the truck had slowed down.
