Cleveland Indians keep racist mascot because of money

Chief Wahoo is back in the World Series, and the reason for the Cleveland Indians’ mascot’s return is somehow more cynical and depressing than the climate that created him.

To be clear, Major League Baseball is no fan of Chief Wahoo’s caricature of Native Americans and league Commissioner Rob Manfred has vowed to meet with Indians owner Paul Dolan during the off-season to address the mascot’s future. Maybe when that conversation takes place, Manfred can ask Dolan why the team went back on its plan to phase out Chief Wahoo and use a block-letter “C” on its caps instead.
