Bank of England boss Mark Carney ready to stay on until 2021: report

Mark Carney is ready to serve a full eight-year term as the governor of the Bank of England, defying critics who have called for his resignation after the U.K.’s Brexit vote, according to a media report.

The central bank chief has told friends he may make a statement as soon as this week , in order to end speculation he will leave the post in 2018, the Financial Times reported Monday. That announcement, if it happens, could come ahead of the publication of the BOE’s inflation report and interest rate decision on Thursday, the FT said.

Canada-born Carney took the helm at the BOE in July 2013 for an eight-year term, but with an option to leave after five years.
