Europe Markets: European stocks face worst week in 9 months, rattled by political risk

European stocks were yanked lower Friday, with markets rattled by political risk as the week comes to a close, pushing the region’s benchmark toward its deepest weekly decline in nine months.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index SXXP, -1.04% fell 0.9% to 328.58. No sector traded higher, and losses were led by the health care SXDP, -1.29% financial SXFR, -1.77% and consumer services groups.

“With only a few more days to U.S. polling day the closeness of the polls continues to jangle nerves in the market,” said Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets UK, in a note.
