Caroline Baum: Once an albatross left by Bush, the economy is now Obama’s ‘gift’ to Trump

For the past eight years, President Barack Obama has been blaming his predecessor, George W. Bush, for everything that was wrong with the U.S. economy. Whether it was the high level of unemployment, debt and deficits, and oil prices in his first term, or America’s diminished standing in the world more recently, it was all Bush’s fault.

So it was something of a relief to learn that Obama will be handing off something better — something that bears his imprimatur, not that of his predecessor — to his successor.
