Asia Markets: Asian markets take a breather ahead of Fed decision

Stock markets across Asia were mostly higher Wednesday as investors awaited the Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates.

Korea’s Kospi SEU, +0.04% was roughly flat, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 XJO, +0.71% gained 0.6% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index HSI, +0.30% climbed 0.6%.

Asian markets have been in lockdown so far this week, with traders avoiding the risk of being caught out by a surprise Fed inaction. Traders are also waiting for guidance on the Fed’s plans for rate rises in 2017.

The decision, due early Thursday in Asia, is expected to unlock regional markets.
