J.J. Zhang’s Winner Take All: Picking winning stocks can be a complicated technical task

Picking winning stocks has never been easy, with many abandoning the idea altogether and going the passive-investing route.

For those still trying, a large number of approaches exist to sort through your choices. Value and fundamental based investing as pioneered by Benjamin Graham, and made famous by his student Warren Buffett, is one of the most tried and true approaches — it requires patience and a good understanding of numbers and risk.

Alternatively, there’s technical analysis. Though often derided, technical analysis has proliferated nonetheless. In what may be a surprise to many, technical analysis has been around for centuries, with traces of it in the 17th and 18th century with the Dutch and Japanese financial markets.
