London Markets: FTSE 100 edges back from 6-week high before Fed decision

U.K. stocks ended slightly lower Wednesday, pulling back from a nearly six-week high, as investors positioned for the possibility that the U.S. Federal Reserve will raise interest rates at its last policy meeting of the year.

The FTSE 100 UKX, -0.28% shed 0.3% to end at 6,949.19. The benchmark on Tuesday rallied 1.1% to 6,968.57, the best close since Oct. 28.

The broader European equity marketSXXP, -0.50% also closed lower Wednesday, after the market hit an 11-month high in the previous session. Investors are waiting to hear if Fed policy makers will deliver the second interest rate hike in 12 months for the world’s largest economy.
