Will driver’s ed industry suffer because of Google’s self-driving cars?

The computer made the travel agent virtually obsolete. Netflix NFLX, -0.16% turned the video-store clerk into an endangered species. And nobody even cares about flash drives anymore thanks to the cloud.

So, will driverless cars send the driver’s ed instructor the way of the dinosaur? Many driver’s ed teachers and industry experts don’t seem too concerned.

Earlier this week, Google’s GOOGL, +0.31% self-driving car project became a stand-alone business unit and got a new name, Waymo LLC, “signaling that the effort will soon be expected to generate revenue,” The Wall Street Journal reports.
