London Markets: FTSE 100 losing steam after four days of gains

U.K. stocks declined modestly Wednesday, losing steam after four sessions of gains, with shares of Royal Bank of Scotland PLC and Barclays PLC trading mixed after the banks reached settlements with the Swiss regulator over rate-rigging charges.

The FTSE 100 UKX, -0.18% was up 0.1% at 7,051.74. On Tuesday, the London benchmark rose 0.4% after swinging in and out of losses during the session.

Financial and mining stocks are having a “hard time consolidating gains, while industrials and technology stocks are struggling to secure a positive session,” said London Capital Group’s senior market analyst Ipek Ozkardeskaya in a note.
