Tunisian suspect in Berlin market attack killed by police in Milan

Police in Milan have shot and killed the Tunisian man suspected of carrying out the truck attack on a Christmas market in Berlin, Italian authorities confirmed Friday.

Anis Amri died in a shootout at Sesto San Giovanni after being stopped in a routine road check by police, Italy’s Interior Minister Marco Minniti told reporters at a press conference. The 24-year-old suspect drew a gun from his backpack after being asked for identification during the check at around 3 a.m. local time, the minister said, according to media reports.

Amri was killed in a return of gunfire by a 29-year-old trainee policeman, one of the two officers who had stopped the suspect, Italian news service ANSA reported.
